mixing: it's not just for the babies

an amazing thing happened to me one summer day.
in a heat hazy daze, i stumbled toward the cool recesses of a marble slab &
observed an ice cream genius fold berries & nuts into frozen goodness &
hand it to me in a slightly soft waffle cone.
as the creation yummed my insides, i had a thought:
some folks are missing the orgasmic flavors of mixing.
& i'm no longer talking about unprotected sex manifestations.
i'm talking about the miracles that can happen when you pair a floral
print with plaid
or
leopard and polka dots.
for those seeking a gentle glide,
i recommend choosing prints with similar color schemes.
to maintain a cohesive feel, be sure to include a solid colored piece.
as for the more experienced bunch, see what you can do with three
or more varying prints.
i believe in your magical potential.

yes, it's my mama's shirt, and i look darn fine wearing it

vintage clothing should, by definition, 'represent the high quality of past fashion'.
in practice though, that often translates into 'a visual representation of an era in fashion we'd rather forget because the wearer has gotten TOO vintage-y on us'.
and as a result, the following words spring to mind:

dated.
tired.
mothballs.
Denny's seniors breakfast special.

the key to not looking reminiscent of the above?

use 'vintage' pieces sparingly.

in other words, combine the former with the now and you just might inspire f
ashion's future.

gray, gray, come again another day

this week i thought it important to showcase a color that often gets a sad rap.
gray.
skies,
teeth,
bathwater.
none of these look better in gray.
& so it goes that too many of our clothes have ended up in basic black.
(enter blah)
for those of you looking for a neutral that also has cooling properties (exit black),
textured color,
& the ability to transition seamlessly from day to eve, enter gray.
and stay awhile.

to wear or not to wear holiday colors on the holidays: that is the question

we've all seen it. how an attempt at adding a bit of "holiday" flair to an outfit can go oh so wrong. it starts innocently enough with color selection.

red and geen on gift giving day, orange and black on candy day, green and more green on drunks-take-to-the-streets day. before you know it, felt antlers are affixed to your head and someone kisses you because you're Irish? to avoid such public displays of unwanted affection, many have avoided certain colors for entire seasons.

to you i say, no more! wear the colors you want no matter the day. hint: accent your outfit with other colors, unless you're on the holiday promotor payroll. (do they have recession-proof jobs like that?)

this week's challenge: incorporate typical v-day colors--red, white, pink, purple--into an outfit that won't leave us wishing it were the 15th. send your best shot to aisha@a-skydesigns.com. submissions received by 18 february will be posted on www.a-skydesigns.com in the blog gallery.
